034 | Pt. Ernest M Cave 271022 of the The Buffs East Kent Regiment 6TH Battalion is commemorated at the Unicorn Cemetery in Vend’Huile. He was the son of Adolph & Fanny Cave (nee Woolf) of London and the husband of Ruby F Cave (nee Jacobs) of 64 Talbot Road, Bayswater London. Adolph was a tailor by trade and his wife was a tailoress machinist; the couple had seven children. Both Adolph and Fanny described themselves as ‘Russian – Poland’ on the Census returns. Adolph, originally of Polish extraction, was granted Naturalisation on 12th August 1913 and became a British subject. His Naturalisation papers revealed that he was the son of Hannah Cave and Abraham Gershon. Adolph had taken his mother’s surname. He was previously a subject of the Russian Empire and was born at Kalish on 11th November 1856. The documents further revealed that Adolph appears to be a respectable man………speaks, reads and writes the English language fairly well….’ Alfred and Fanny’s son, Ernest M Cave married Ruby Jacobs during the June Quarter of 1914.
